In May of 2019, I decided to start writing on Medium. I had already been blogging on and off for the past decade or so. Money trickled in though the Google Adwords or through clients as a result of my marketing blog.

The thought of being paid directly based on how reader’s interacted with my articles was intriguing, so I gave it a shot.

For the past year, I published an article almost weekly — sometimes less, sometimes more. I’m not a professional writer — I consider myself a hobbyist. Prior to Medium, I wrote on personal development themes on my own blog, and on marketing topics through my freelance marketing blog.

I decided to keep a short journal of my journey — how many articles I published, what I earned in revenue, and a bit about what I was writing and feeling. Note that midway through this year, Medium changed their revenue structure, which is noted later on.

After, I’ll share some lessons I learned and tips if you’re looking to succeed on Medium.
